Calamus SL2006: New in release 1

This page informs about all changes in Calamus SL2006 since Calamus SL2003 R3.

State: (2005-12-20)

This upgrade contains new features as well as some important bugfixes.

System preferences

New: Screen resolution has to be at least SVGA (800 x 600 pixel).
New: Dialogs in Calamus SL can be larger now. We carefully redesigned some dialogs, while others make no sense being enlarged.

Calamus file selector

New: [129] Calamus file selector now shows the number and size of pages in CDK preview. The file selector had to be redesigned therefore. The path edit field is placed beyond the file list now.
New: Previews for CDK and CRD are shown in a higher resolution.
New: [294] If too many files are selected in import functions, you can choose if the first of which should be imported rather then cancelling the whole function.
New: File names can become up to 64 characters long.
New: The file list shows 25 instead of 20 list entries at once.
New: Folders are shown with a real folder symbol (visual problems in Windows with '@' as folder symbol solved).
New: The Closer, which leads to a higher folder level, is a real symbol now.
New: File size is shown now with up to 10 digits (max. 2 GB).
New: File and time format in the file list are taken from the system parameters module like before, but now also seconds, four digit years and american formats (am/PM) are supported.
New: File list width can be switched in advantage of a larger preview field.
Fix: [292] The file date is shown correctly when very long file names are used.
Fix: History popup menues in the Calamus file selector no longer cut file names and are much larger now.
Fix: The function icons New folder, Delete file(s) and Rename no longer react in a silly way on empty or silly user requests.
New: The folder symbols in the file selector are tinted in dark blue.
New: File and folder history now remember up to 128 entries (was 64).
New: The file list/preview area switcher button has been redesigned.

Font replacement for Italic and Bold:

New: [286] The dialog has a Save button now, because the parameters can be saved finally (see CALAMUS.SET).

File menu: Insert

New: The dialog Insert document now offers MIN/MAX buttons if neccessary. Page ranges cannot be entered wrong any more (smart edit mode).
New: Now Insert document after page xxx is default, no longer ... before.

Dialog External modules/Drivers

New: The dialog has been enhanced and shows the module icon for updated modules as well as the module name, compilation date, version number and file name. This makes working with the module list much easier.
New: You can call the info dialog of all modules and drivers by pressing [Ctrl][Mouse click]. All available module information are shown, including long module text descriptions, list of authors, etc. Calamus therefore offers a central info dialog for all modules and drivers which can use it now instead of bringing along their own info dialog stuff.

Options menu: Reformat document

New: The dialog has been redesigned in order to have the most used entries on top.
New: [57] The dialog supports the new smart edit mode which offers MIN/MAX buttons with smart error correction in documents with more than one page. Unrequired entries for Index and Footnotes are disabled now in order to enhance the GUI.

This new switch defines if Calamus should alert you when you are going to overwrite an existing file (exception: File menu: Save).

Internal control curve editor

New: [320] OverwriteWarning:
This new parameter (on/off) corresponds with the new checkbox in the dialog Miscellaneous settings (Options menu).
If set on, a warning is given to the user before a file is going to be overwritten (exception: File menu: Save).

New: [286] TImpFontNormal:
This entry stores the number of the font, which should be assigned to the text style Normal on text import.

This entry stores the number of the font, which should be assigned to the text style Italic on text import.

Please keep in mind, that the previously mentioned four entries do not realize a real font assignment, but simply assign the currently loaded fonts to a text style (using their number, starting at 0). If no font is loaded when you recall this dialog, the assignments are cleared again. If less fonts are loaded than have been assigned before, the first loaded font is assigned to the now missed font places.

This entry stores the switch state of Italic: Font / Style in the import parameter dialog Font selection for 'Italic' and 'Bold'.

#Fonts

New: Filenames:
Loaded fonts are now listed one per row like the external modules. This allows easier reading and editing of the Calamus.SET file.

#FrameEditParameters

These two new entries store the auto text flow offsets for right and bottom borders of frames.

New: It is much easier now to use multiple versions of Calamus at the same time under Windows as well as start Calamus by double-clicking on a CDK file.

New: Document Converter not only converts CDK files, but all Calamus file formats from older Calamus versions into your current Calamus format. This is done quietly by default. But if you like to, you can now get the information about which Calamus created a Calamus document.

By default, the reports are switched off, but can be activated in this dialog easily:

If you don't want to be informed about all old Calamus documents (which are more than CDK!), you might want to defin a list of formats. This is possible, too.

It now offers much more options for setting up the page range (but the dialog still suggests the range from the current page up to the last page as default range). Even very nice: You cannot enter wrong page numbers any more and will no more see annoying alerts which inform you about such mistakes.
New: The dialog Set layout/working area got new buttons which insert macro codes for various document information into the document info line very easily.
New: You may number pages backwards now. The new dialog offers an according button which also checks that the page numbers will never reach number ZERO in Backwards mode. – This might ease up layouting Hebrew or Arabic books as well as using Calamus for crazy special cases.

Fix: The dialog for text macros and Special key bindings had a design bug which could be seen in the WinPack: dialog titles were shown in an ugly format. Furthermore, the Special key bindings were no longer mentioned in the dialog titles, only their group. When we redesigned the dialog, these errors have been fixed. Now the dialog doesn't show ugly empty areas in the Special key bindings mode.
